Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence

DEFINITION

A data warehouse is a repository of historical information for analytical purposes. A data mart is a smaller data warehouse designed for a particular subject area rather than general enterprise-wide browsing. Usually the information is derived from a number of different operational systems.

THE BENEFITS

A well-designed data warehouse enables management and analysts

to supply data to advanced scorecards and other KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

to look back and spot business trends

to identify the cause of any anomalous business results

to compare results before and after a reorganization or product line overhaul

to see what resources were consumed by different activities

to monitor the effectiveness of advertising and promotions

Text Box: OUR SPECIALTY

Although our clients have operational systems in many environments, we specialize in designing and setting up data warehouses based on Microsoft SQL Server. We use its DTS (Data Transformation Services) component as a basis for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) procedures.
